Embark with us on a musical journey around the world and welcome the New Year with splendour, passion, and joie de vivre. The ensemble of Oper Leipzig will take you from Spain to Russia, from the USA to South America – and of course, to the glittering home of Viennese operetta.

Look forward to sparkling overtures by Mozart and Rossini, passionate arias from the great operas of the repertoire, as well as unforgettable Broadway melodies. Tango rhythms from Buenos Aires, the romantic operetta sounds of Lehár and Kálmán, and timeless classics made famous by Edith Piaf will bathe New Year’s Eve in a dazzling glow.

The chorus of Oper Leipzig and the Gewandhaus Orchestra present impressive solo performances and, together with outstanding soloists, create musical highlights throughout the evening. At the podium stands our First Kapellmeisterin, Yura Yang, who will conduct the evening with a fine sense of energy and atmosphere.

Your host for the evening will be Malte Arkona – well-known from television, radio, and the concert stage – who, with wit and charm, will set just the right mood for a sparkling New Year’s celebration.

And, of course, no festive finale would be complete without the waltz: Strauss’s polkas and waltzes, along with the famous “Va, pensiero” from Verdi’s Nabucco, bring the evening to a glorious close.
