Biography
Born in Austria. Studied in Vienna. In 1992, while still a student, deputy choir director and stage conductor at the Vienna Volksoper. Further engagements as choir director, later first conductor at the Stadttheater Koblenz and as choir director at the Bremen Theatre. 2013/14 artistic director of the choir of the National Opera in Amsterdam. Choirmaster at various radio choirs such as WDR, NDR, MDR and the Dutch Radio Choir in Hilversum. Choir assistant at the Bayreuth Festival and guest choir director at the opera houses in Zurich and Hanover. Since 2016 also guest choir director at the Shanghai Opera. Conductor with the Rheinische Philharmonie, the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra and the WDR Radio Orchestra, among others. 2008-14 Teaching position for orchestral conducting at the University of the Arts in Bremen. 2014-17 Choir director at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. Since November 2017 choir director at the Leipzig Opera. From 2025 choir director of the Bayreuth Festival. At Leipzig Opera, rehearsals of »Tristan und Isolde«, »Tosca«, »Der fliegende Holländer«, »Carmen«, »La fanciulla del west«, »Götterdämmerung«, »La traviata«, »Parsifal«, »Peter Grimes«,»Lady Macbeth von Mzensk«. 2019/20 Director of the choir project »Über.Leben!«, 2020/21 Musical director of »Knusper, knusper, knäuschen...«.
