            Our values

Oper Leipzig's declaration of purpose and core values

The principles for the sustainable development of Oper Leipzig are deeply rooted in a declaration of our purpose and values. This chapter forms the core of our self-image, which we want to live internally and communicate externally. It reflects our mission, on which our vision is based, and defines the values that guide our actions.
By firmly anchoring our principles in this way, we strive not only to set standards in the art world, but also to have a positive and lasting impact on our community and the environment.

Our commitment to excellence, courage, identification, proximity and sustainability forms the basis for our daily work and our long-term goals to make a lasting contribution to society.

            • our MISSION

Oper Leipzig stands for high artistic quality, is a theater of experience with international appeal for all generations, a place of social dialogue, participation and networking.

Oper Leipzig is open to all people and a place where diversity and sustainability are lived out. In art and in cooperation. As a company owned by the City of Leipzig, Oper Leipzig pursues the mission of cultivating and promoting art and culture, non-profit status and economic efficiency in accordance with its statutes.

The purpose of the statutes is realized in particular through the operation and management of a music theater with the main artistic genres of opera, operetta, musical and ballet in the Opera House and the Musical Comedy.

The theater and costume workshops provide services for Oper Leipzig, Schauspiel Leipzig and Theater der Jungen

Oper Leipzig wins the German Equal Pay Award for the radiance and assertiveness of its remuneration system and as a pioneer for the cultural sector. Oper Leipzig is recognised for its high level of awareness of the complexity of the gender pay gap. The award recognises the change process initiated to implement equal pay, despite difficult initial conditions, such as numerous different types of contract and a low available budget.

            • Diversity Charter

By signing the Diversity Charter, we are committing to a working environment characterised by openness and equality - where everyone is valued, regardless of origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion or physical ability.

            • Sustainability management

We were the first German theatre to be certified in accordance with DIN ISO 20121, an international standard for sustainable event management. This demanding standard requires sustainability goals and guidelines for sustainable action in environmental, social and economic terms, which must be continuously pursued and expanded. On the initiative of the management of Oper Leipzig, a sustainability working group (WG) was set up, made up of employees from various departments. Specific measures were developed, discussed and prioritised using both a bottom-up and a top-down approach. The requirements of DIN ISO 20121 are reviewed annually in an external audit and are not currently met by any other theatre company in Germany.
