At the Athenian court, the law reigns supreme. Fathers decide over daughters. Reason over emotion. Yet beyond the palace walls lies the forest – and with it, another reality. For over 400 years, Shakespeare’s comedy has explored what happens when order meets chaos. Love as an irrational force. Identity as a fluid game. Nature as a mirror of inner abysses.
How deep do we dare venture into the forest? The further the lovers go, the more what once seemed fixed dissolves. The forest becomes the unconscious. It is the realm of Puck, Oberon, Titania – their shadows vanish among the trees. Desire. Intoxication. Transformation – what appears restrained in palaces finds freedom here. The boundary between dream and reality disappears. The feud of the fairy monarchy breaks through the human façade as an inner conflict. What lies hidden becomes visible. What seemed controlled slips away.
Juliano Nunes, known for his work with the Royal Ballet London, the Mariinsky Theatre, the American Ballet Theatre and the Nederlands Dans Theater, transforms Shakespeare’s play into a journey through layers of consciousness. Together with set designer Youssef Hotait, he creates a space in which Apollonian order and Dionysian chaos collide. What awaits in the darkness? And what must come to light so that we may awaken in the morning?
