Biography
Manuel Dengler was born in Wiesbaden in 1989 and began his musical training as a child with the Limburg Cathedral Boys’ Choir. Manuel Dengler gained his first theatre experience between 2005 and 2010 at the Junges Staatsmusical in Wiesbaden, based at the local State Theatre. In 2014, he graduated with distinction from the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding, and in 2016 he went on to complete a Master of Arts degree specialising in directing and pedagogy. In 2013, he came third in the main musical theatre category at the Berlin National Singing Competition, and in 2014 he won first place at the International Vocal Competition in St Petersburg. He has made guest appearances, amongst others, at the Nuremberg State Opera as Bill Calhoun in »Kiss Me, Kate«, as Angel in »Rent« at the Trier City Theatre, as Woof in »Hair« at the Darmstadt State Theatre, played Judas in »Jesus Christ Superstar« at the Wiesbaden State Theatre, Igor in »Young Frankenstein« at the Pforzheim Theatre, and has appeared on several occasions as a soloist at the Augsburg State Theatre, the Kassel State Theatre and the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. Further engagements have taken him to Rostock, Berlin, Leipzig, Karlsruhe, Munich, Baden-Baden, Bremerhaven, Schwäbisch Hall, Paderborn, Coburg and Heilbronn. Most recently, Manuel Dengler lent his voice to the plant Audrey 2 in »The Little Shop of Horrors«.
As a director, his productions have included »Into the Woods« at the Deutsches Theater in Munich and »Jesus Christ Superstar« in collaboration with the Prinzregententheater in Munich. During the 2023/24 season, Manuel Dengler directed »Die Csárdásfürstin« at the Theater an der Rott, which was also performed on tour in Zell an der Pram and at the Theater Deggendorf. In 2025, his production of »Chess« premiered at the Theater an der Rott, and in 2026 he directed a musical adaptation of »The Bremen Town Musicians« at the Stadttheater Kempten. Manuel Dengler also works as a singing teacher and workshop leader. In 2022, he opened »studioM« in Leipzig as a music school and venue.
From 2026, he will appear at the Musikalische Komödie as Jiro Sugiyama in »The Hare with Amber Eyes«.
