The event technology specialist works in all technical areas of a theatre and is jointly responsible for the processes backstage and on stage. This still relatively ‘young’ profession essentially combines the activities of stage technicians or stagehands, lighting technicians and sound and video technicians. After completing their training, event technology specialists can be employed in all areas of stage technology, such as in the upper and lower machinery.

Prerequisites
If you would like to work as an event technology specialist, you should have an interest in technology and be willing to familiarise yourself with the specific circumstances of an artistic operation. Open-mindedness towards artistic ideas and designs from directors and/or stage designers is necessary. Technical understanding, manual dexterity, creativity in solving technical and artistic problems, the ability to work in a team, reliability, a sense of responsibility, time flexibility and the ability to work under pressure should be present.
Apprenticeship
Training as an event technology specialist is an exciting three-year dual vocational training programme that provides you with comprehensive knowledge in the world of events. You will learn how to design events, implement safety and fire protection measures and provide and commission electrical equipment and the power supply. You will also learn how to handle, test, secure, transport and store stage structures and event technology equipment.
Another important part of the training is the operation of stage equipment and the installation and commissioning of lighting, sound and PA systems. You will also be trained in the recording and transmission of video and sound material and learn how to control lighting systems. In addition, you will be introduced to the planning and realisation of events and the use of media.
The practical lessons will take place in the technical stage departments of Oper Leipzig and Musikalische Komödie, while the theoretical lessons will take place in a block model at the vocational college in Halle (Saale). This way, you will be optimally prepared for your future tasks in event technology!
