Albert Lortzing is known not only for his operas but also for his lieder. In addition to his lieder for male choir, a number of lieder for solo voice have also survived. These complement perfectly the work of Leipzig artists such as Clara Schumann’s lieder or the poems and writings of the women’s rights activist Louise Otto-Peters, who, like Lortzing, was close to the revolutionary Robert Blum. In this recital, alongside Lortzing’s lieder rcycle, we will explore Leipzig’s chamber music and socio-political facets of that era.
