As May blossoms, a cappella and their hosts amarcord once again step forward with renewed vigour and a fresh programme – but for the first time in collaboration with, and at, the Leipzig Oper!
In 2026, a festival will be held there to celebrate Albert Lortzing, who made a name for himself as an opera composer, particularly during his time in Leipzig. Thus, to kick off their own festival and in the spirit of connecting the ‘houses’, amarcord will explore what Lortzing – and, in true amarcord style, his contemporaries – actually composed for vocal ensembles and choirs back in the day. We can look forward to an a cappella opening in the spirit of the Romantic tradition of male choirs and Liedertafeln, featuring works by Lortzing and composers such as Marschner and Mendelssohn – and the convivial, resonant opening chord heralding another vocal spring in Leipzig!
