Biography
Matthias Henneberg was born in Gotha (Thuringia). From 1965 to 1974, he was a member of the Dresden Boys' Choir. He gained his first experience on the opera stage in the children's choir at the Dresden State Theatre. He studied singing with Gerd Neumann at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, took part in masterclasses with Pavel Lisizian, Hannelore Kuse, Prof. Elsbeth Plen and KS Erich Witte, and has won prizes at national and international competitions. In 1982, he completed his studies with a diploma as a soloist and vocal pedagogue. In the same year, he began his artistic work at the Saxon State Opera (Semperoper) in Dresden, first in the opera studio and, since 1985, as a member of the soloist ensemble, where he sang numerous roles such as Kaspar (Der Freischütz), Heerrufer (Lohengrin), Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde), Schaunard and Colline (La Bohème), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Falstaff, Alberich (Ring des Nibelungen), Escamillo (Carmen) or Pizarro (Fidelio). He also participated in many guest performances and CD recordings. He taught at the »Carl Maria von Weber« University of Music in Dresden from 1985 to 1990 and has been teaching vocal performance as a lecturer since 2010. In June 2009, he was awarded the title of »Kammersänger« in Dresden. In September 2011, he was appointed professor of singing. Since 2024, KS Matthias Henneberg has been an honorary member of the Saxon State Opera.
