Biography
The countertenor and musical theatre tenor Joël Zupan graduated from the Berlin University of the Arts in 2022. During his studies, he was a prize-winner at the National Singing Competition and received a special prize for his exceptional stage presence and original performance. He also created the role of Alina Deutschmann in the world premiere of »Eine Stimme für Deutschland« at the Neuköllner Oper. After graduating, he made guest appearances in roles including Jesus in »Jesus Christ Superstar« at the Kulturgarage in Vienna, Brigitte Bordeaux in »Brigitte Bordeaux« (world premiere) at the Burgfestspiele Mayen, Frank-N-Furter in »The Rocky Horror Show« at the Theater Paderborn, the Angel of Death and the chorus role of Lady Capulet in »Romeo & Juliet – Love Is Everything« (world premiere) at the Theater des Westens in Berlin, as Sylviane Bogdanowitsch in »The Merry Widow« at the Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen, as Dolores Dolores and in the supporting role of Ozzie in »On the Town« at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, as Chantal and in the supporting role of Jacob in »La Cage aux folles« at the Seefestspiele Mörbisch, and as Judas in »Jesus Christ Superstar« at the Bonn Opera. In 2021, he reached the quarter-finals of the TV talent show »The Voice of Germany«. Since 2022, Joël Zupan has been furthering his vocal training as a classical countertenor.
Joël Zupan will make his debut at the Musikalische Komödie in the 2026/2027 season in the title role of »The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein«.
