Biography
Born in Kaiserslautern. Studies in acting, singing and dance. First leading role in 1981 in the European premiere of »Anything Goes«. From 1984 member of the soloist ensemble at Theater des Westens Berlin, with roles including Judas in »Jesus Christ Superstar«, Jean-Michel in »La Cage aux Folles«, Cliff in »Cabaret« alongside Helen Schneider and Hildegard Knef, Sigismund in »Im weißen Rössl«, Herbie in »Gypsy« and the Pirate King in »Piraten«.
Tony in »West Side Story« in Dortmund, Bonn and at the Metropol-Theater Berlin. Further roles include Che Guevara in »Evita«, Vernon in »Sie spielen unser Lied« and Klaus in »Geteilte Freude« at Theater am Kurfürstendamm. From September 1999 Billy Flynn in »Chicago« at Theater des Westens, Deutsches Theater München and Theater Basel.
2002–2004 Harry in the German premiere of »Mamma Mia!«, 2004/05 Thénardier in »Les Misérables« at Theater des Westens, 2005/06 Rochefort in »Drei Musketiere« and 2008 Herbert in »Ich will Spaß« at the Colosseum Essen. 2009 European tour as palaeontologist Huxley in »Dinosaurier – Im Reich der Giganten«. 2010–2012 Shank in the German premiere of »Sister Act« at Operettenhaus Hamburg. Guest performances with his solo programme »Ivan und die Frauen«. Guest lecturer at the Joop van den Ende Academy Hamburg.
Directing credits include »On the Town« at Volkstheater Rostock, »Eine Nacht in Venedig« at Theater St. Gallen, the German premiere of »Peter Pan« at Opernhaus Halle, where he also appeared as Captain Hook, »West Side Story« at Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern and the world premiere of »Der gestiefelte Kater« at the Hanau Festival. At the Musikalische Komödie, productions of »Jekyll & Hyde« and »Der Graf von Monte Christo«.
From 2015 to 2022 principal stage director of the Musikalische Komödie. Productions include »Dracula«, »Die Piraten von Penzance«, the European premiere of »LoveMusik«, »Doktor Schiwago«, »Casanova«, »On the Town«, »La fanciulla del West« at the Opernhaus and the solo programme »Ivan und die Frauen« as part of »Kleine Komödie«. 2019/20 productions of the popular-song revue »Spiel mir eine alte Melodie« and »Kuss der Spinnenfrau« at Westbad.
Further productions include »Sweeney Todd«, »Bullets Over Broadway«, »Me and My Girl« and »Evita« at the Musikalische Komödie, as well as »Maskarade« at the Opernhaus.
