Description

Ballet by Mario Schröder | Music by Johann Sebastian Bach | Choreographic Premiere | Playing time ca. 2 1/2 hours | One intermission
Although the St. John Passion was conceived of as a concert piece, the work’s charged dramatic potential nearly demands that it be staged. And to celebrate the anniversary of the Reformation, Mario Schröder will imbue this monumental work with his unique choreographic vision. Bach’s St. John Passion was premiered in Leipzig’s St. Nicholas Church in 1724, and is one of his most significant works. It tells the story of Jesus Christ’s last, pain-filled days.
