Torsten Buß

Biografie

Was born in Bremen. He studied theater and German at the Universität Leipzig. He has worked since 2000 as a dramaturge and directorial assistant as a part of Ernst Lübbe’s team, on productions at the Schauspiel Leipzig, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, and the Staatstheater Nürnberg. He was chief dramaturge for drama at the Theater Chemnitz from 2008 to 2013. In 2010 he guested with Lübbe on a production of »Rose Bernd« von Gerhart Hauptmann at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel, and in the 2011/12 season on Schiller’s »Räuber« at the Schauspiel Frankfurt, Bellini’s »Norma« at the Oper Dortmund, as well as Horváth’s »Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald« at the Berliner Ensemble. He worked on »Urfaust» at the Volkstheater Wien in the 2012/13 season, and also guested at the Staatsoper Hannover with the Germany premiered Manfred Trojahn’s »Orest«. He has been chief dramaturge and deputy artistic director at the Schauspiel Leipzig since the 2013/14 season. He’s worked on productions there including »Die Schutzflehenden / Die Schutzbefohlenen« by Aischylos / Jelinek, »Die Maßnahme / Die Perser« by Aischylos / Brecht / Eisler, as well as »Faust I + II«. He guested at the Theater Erfurt for Alban Berg’s »Wozzeck« in 2017 and at Oper Bonn for Richard Strauss’ »Elektra« in 2019. The 2019/20 season brought him to the Oper Leipzig as co-director for »Tristan und Isolde«.
