Biografie

Was born in the USA. He made his Bayreuther Festspiele debut in 1997. Since then he has appeared as a guest at all of the leading international opera houses in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Staatsoper Wien, Staatsoper München, Staatsoper Berlin, Staatsoper Dresden, the Liceu Barcelona, as well as at the opera houses in Madrid, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Milan, San Fran­cisco, Los Angeles, in roles such as Siegmund (»Die Walküre«), Parsifal, Lohengrin, Tristan, Stolzing (»Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«), Bacchus (»Ariadne auf Naxos«), Manrico (»Il trovatore»), Alvaro (»La forza del destino«), Don Carlo, Cavaradossi (»Tosca«), Des Grieux (»Manon Lescaut«), Don José (»Carmen«), Enzo (»La giocon­da«), Canio (»Pagliacci«), Florestan (»Fidelio«), Hermann (»Pique Dame«), Hoffmann, Max (»Der Freischütz«), and the Kaiser (»Die Frau ohne Schatten«). He has worked with conductors includeing Daniel Barenboim, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Sir Colin Davis, Christian Thielemann, Antonio Pappano, Bernard Haitink, Gerd Albrecht, Marcello Viotti, and Peter Schneider. He first bowed at der Oper Leipzig in the 2016/17 season as the Kaiser in »Die Frau ohne Schatten« and returns in the 2021/22 season as Siegmund in »Die Walküre«.
