Michael Volle


Was born in Freudenstadt in Schwarzwald. His repertoire includes roles such as Wotan/Wanderer (»Der Ring des Nibelungen«), the title role in »Der fliegende Holländer«, Hans Sachs (»Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«), Amfortas (»Parsifal«), Barak (»Die Frau ohne Schatten«), Jochanaan (»Salome«), Orest (»Elektra«), Mandryka (»Arabella«), Dr. Schön/Jack the Ripper (»Lulu«), the title role in »Wozzeck«, Scarpia (»Tosca«), Sir John Falstaff (»Falstaff«), and Jack Rance (»La fanciulla del West«). He has bowed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, at the Staatsoper München and Staatsoper Wien, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Opéra National de Paris, and at the opera houses in Berlin, as well as at the Salzburger Festspiele and the Bayreuther Festspiele and at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. He has been awarded the Deutscher Theaterpreis »Faust« and been named Singer of the Year by the »Opernwelt« magazine (in 2008 and 2014). He bowed at the Oper Leipzig in the 2020/21season as the Baritone in »Die Frist ist um« and returns in the 2021/22 season as Wotan in »Das Rheingold« and the Wanderer in »Siegfried«.
