Iain Paterson


Was born in Scotland. He studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He made his debut as Fasolt in Das Rheingold under Sir Simon Rattle at the Salzburg Easter Festival in 2007. Recent engagements include performances at the Houston Grand Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera, the English National Opera, the Beijing Festival, the Vlaamse Opera, the Théâtre La Monnaie Brussels, and the Bayreuth Festival. He has also appeared on the stages of the Bavarian State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Staatsoper Berlin, at La Scala, and at the Bergen National Opera. He appeared as Wotan in the concert performance Das Rheingold at the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. He has appeared in concert performances with the Hallé-Orchestra Manchester, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Andris Nelsons), the Edinburgh International Festival, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He appears at the Oper Leipzig as Wotan in Das Rheingold, as the Wanderer in Siegfried and in the title role of The Flying Dutchman.
