Günther Groissböck


Studied at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He has been a member of the ensembles at the Wiener Staatsoper and at the Opernhaus Zürich. He regularly appears as a guest at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Opéra national de Paris, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as at the opera houses in Chicago, Amsterdam, Rome, Madrid, and Barcelona, and at the festivals in Salzburg and Bayreuth. His roles include Heinrich der Vogler in »Lohengrin«, Landgraf Hermann in »Tannhäuser«, Veit Pogner in »Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg«, Baron Ochs in »Der Rosenkavalier«, Sarastro in »Die Zauberflöte«, Rocco in »Fidelio«, and the title role in »Boris Godunow«. He made his directorial debut in 2021 at the Theater an der Wien with »Tristan Experiment«. He appears at the Oper Leipzig in the 2021/22 season as Heinrich der Vogler in »Lohengrin«.
