Franz Gürtelschmied


Studied at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He was a a part of the Young Singers Project at the Salzburger Festspiele 2014. He made his debut at the Neue Oper Wien as Alkibiades in Krenek’s »Pallas Athene weint« in 2016. This production won the Austrian Music Theater Prize in 2018. He was nominated for the Austrian Music Theater Prize as best male supporting role for his interpretation of Gustl (»Das Land des Lächelns«) at the Bühne Baden in 2017. His repertoire includes roles such as Tony (»West Side Story«), Camille de Rosillon (»Die lustige Witwe«), Graf Gustav von Pottenstein (»Das Land des Lächelns«), Steuermann (»Der fliegende Holländer«), Four Page (»Parsifal«) and the title role in »Der Zigeunerbaron«. He has appeared at the Oper Graz, the Opéra National de Paris, at Wagner Days in Budapest, at Müpa Budapest, and at the Schlossfestspiele Langenlois. He bows at the Oper Leipzig in the 2021/22 season as a Grail Knight in »Parsifal«.
