Étienne Pluss


Studied set design at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Before that, he led an art gallery in Geneva. He was a production assistant for Achim Freyer und Karl-Ernst Herrmann. He started creating his own set designs in 2000 for theaters in Vienna (Burgtheater, Akademietheater, Theater in der Josefstadt, Volkstheater), at the Staatsoper Berlin and Staatsoper Hannover, at Oper Frankfurt, the Opéra National de Paris, Opera de Dijon, at the Nationaltheater Prague, at the Theater Basel, as well as at the playhouses in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Oslo, and at the Berliner Ensemble. He was worked with directors including George Tabori, Patrick Schlösser, Adriana Altaras, Claus Guth, Andrea Schwalbach, Philip Tiedemann, and Peter Hailer. He was nominated for the Faust-Prize by the Deutsche Bühnenverein in 2019 for the set for »Violetter Schnee“« at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, produced in collaboration with Claus Guth. He has designed the stages for fashions shows in Milan and Berlin. He has enjoyed many years of collaboration with Enrico Lübbe, with productions mounted at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Staatsoper Hannover, and at the Schauspiel Leipzig. He comes to the Oper Leipzig in the 2019/20 season as set designer for »Tristan und Isolde«.
