Fans of romantic thrillers are sure to get chills when they see the blood-sucking count from Transylvania take the stage. Dracula is at once a breathtaking horror musical and a passionate romance. Since the premiere of his first work, Jekyll & Hyde, the American composer Frank Wildhorn has established himself as one of the greatest musical composers of our time. For his adaptation of this most famous of vampire stories, Wildhorn remains true to Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, alternating between an old castle in the Carpathian Mountains and Victorian London. It’s the fascinating and suspense-filled story of Count Dracula and Van Helsing, the deft vampire hunter. Hunting for fresh blood, Dracula leaves the mountains of Transylvania for the first time in hundreds of years. He makes his way towards London, aiming to terrify its citizens. Like a drug, his deadly seduction invades the anonymity of the capital city, threatening to overwhelm its unsuspecting citizens. He is especially drawn to young women, and they are powerless to resist him. But he’s willing to sacrifice everything for the one he truly loves. This touching love story shows Dracula to be more than just a murderous monster, and is bursting with big emotions, big melodies, and big theater. Wildhorn’s music ranges in style from contemporary pop to romantic ballads to rousing rock scenes. Dracula is the third Frank Wildhorn musical to take the stage at the Musikalische Komödie, following in the successful footsteps of Jekyll & Hyde and The Count of Monte Cristo. The creative team responsible for the first two stagings returns.
