The Cityscape Dances series is celebrating its fifth anniversary. For the last five years, Mario Schröder and the Leipzig Ballet have been dancing through the city of Leipzig, lending a new perspective to the spaces we normally rush by, compelling us to see the city with new eyes. From a fitness studio to the Club International, from the St. George’s Hospital Bathhouse to the German National Library, from the Geschwister-Scholl-House in the Ritterstraße, to the Schumann House, all the way to the Panorama tower on the Augustusplatz. Wherever it may be, what was a familiar location is transformed into a place of dialogue and gathering.
It all began at the Leipzig Club International, and in the 2016/17 season, the Leipzig Ballet returns to take a look back. While the intervening years may have raced by, a lot has happened: The Leipzig Ballet has arrived, not only in our city’s landscape, but also in the hearts of the people that make Leipzig their home.
