The wheel of fortune spins on. This production, from 2011, is one of the many close collaborations between the Leipzig Ballet and the Chorus of the Oper Leipzig (which will be celebrating its 200thanniversary in 2017). “Mario Schröder has succeeded in bringing two disparate works together to create one complete vision,” one critic raved. The first part of the performance is choreography to John Adams’ violin concerto. In their own, distinct way, each of the two works grapples with man’s history, and how his fortune can change in the blink of an eye. The complete evening traces a path from meditative calm to collective ecstasy. This revival will close out International Dance Day 2017.
